How to Prepare for a Stormwater Inspection
A stormwater inspection goes better when the facility can quickly show how stormwater is controlled, sampled, documented, and improved. Preparation should focus on both field conditions and records.
Field preparation
- Walk drainage areas before wet weather.
- Check inlets, outfalls, berms, filters, covers, and housekeeping.
- Remove exposed materials or protect them from stormwater contact.
- Confirm sampling locations are accessible and safe.
Records to organize
- Site map and drainage map.
- SWPPP and monitoring plan.
- Inspection logs and BMP maintenance records.
- Sampling results and lab reports.
- Training records and corrective action documentation.
